Thank you for inquiring about County Golf Association. We are pleased to give you a few details about CGA.
CGA was established in 1975. Through the years, the membership has grown from 25-50 players to approximately 600 - 800 men and 50 lady members. CGA is committed to fun and integrity of competition in the great game of golf. All of our tournaments are conducted in accordance with USGA rules.
CGA conducts 90+ events per calendar year. The schedule involves regular weekly events each Monday and Thursday with morning and afternoon starts. Generally, the start times are 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM. We have found that this accommodates those who can only play in the morning or only in the afternoon. Also, CGA conducts an annual Individual Association Championship.
For the most part, our tournaments are conducted in two formats: individual stroke play and better ball of pair. (We do have scrambles a few times a year.) All tournaments are flighted into regular, senior and ladies divisions. Seniors are those 55 and up. Prizes are awarded in both gross and net (handicapped) competition. Approximately $8.00 of your tournament fee goes into the prize distribution. The prizes are awarded in the form of merchandise credit at the golf course's pro shop.
CGA maintains each member's handicap based upon CGA scores. We provide a CGA handicap card quarterly. The CGA is on-line with the USGA GHIN (Golf Handicap Index Network) and the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA), making it possible for CGA members to maintain their USGA handicaps through the CGA while at the same time joining the FSGA. The fee for the GHIN service is only $30.00 per calendar year (Jan 01 - Dec 31) and is optional. All attested scores from play at any USGA rated golf courses are eligible for your USGA handicap file.
We are proud to offer the opportunity to play up to 25 of the Tampa Bay area's finest private, semi-private, and public golf courses at a very competitive cost. The cost of each tournament is $45-$60 per player in season (Jan - Apr) and $40-$55 per player May - Dec. This fee pays for cart fees, green fees, prize distribution, and CGA income.
We mail tournament information to our membership every two weeks. Included in this mailing are tournament entry forms for you to complete and return with your check. You also have the option to fax or e-mail your entry (and send your check by mail.) This assures your entry, as some events fill quickly.
To join CGA simply complete the application card and return it to our office with a check for $60 payable to CGA. This will put you on our mailing list for the year. Membership is from Jan. 01 - Dec. 31. We are in the office Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. (Our answering machine is always on so please leave a message.)
